How to Work With These Alarms

  • USB and memory card alarms (1912–1973) are almost never program problems. Work through them in this order: check the physical connection (1928), then the media format (1937 — use FAT/FAT32), then capacity (1932, 1962), then write protection (1963, 1967). If a USB device reports overcurrent (1956), replace it rather than retrying.
  • RS-232C alarms (1823, 1830–1834) usually mean cabling, baud rate, or device power — verify the device is powered, the cable is intact, and the baud rate, stop bit, and I/O device specification number all match (1807, 1832).
  • M code duplication alarms (1508–1511) mean two functions were configured with the same M code. This is a parameter/PMC configuration conflict, not a program error — find which function shares the code.
  • EGB alarms (1593–1598) require the EGB option. If your machine does not have it, these codes will never appear. Where they do, check whether the slave axis is set as a rotary axis and whether pulses per revolution are configured.

Disclaimer: This article is a personal compilation organized from FANUC alarm documentation and field reference material, then translated and grouped by code range. Alarm messages, descriptions, and related parameter numbers vary by system model, installed options, and software version. Always follow the text displayed on your machine and the corresponding official manual. Back up parameters before making changes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. My USB memory gives an error when I try to back up. Which alarm matters most?

广告

Start with 1937 and 1932. Alarm 1937 means the USB memory format is incorrect — format it as FAT or FAT32, and if the problem persists, replace the USB memory. Alarm 1932 means the device is full. Also check 1928 (device not found, check the connection), 1926 (cannot access), and 1953 (device removed during access). Alarm 1956 indicates overcurrent, which means the USB device should be replaced rather than retried.

2. What causes RS-232C communication alarms 1830 to 1834?

These relate to RS-232C interface 2. Alarm 1830 means the I/O device operation ready signal (DR) is OFF during data I/O: the device may not be powered, the cable may be broken, or the printed circuit board may be faulty. Alarm 1832 means an overflow, parity, or framing error occurred while reading — the number of data bits does not match, or the baud rate setting or I/O device specification number is incorrect. Alarm 1833 means the stop bit was not detected, and 1834 means input does not stop even after 10 characters, pointing to an I/O device or board problem.

3. Why do I get M code duplication alarms 1508 to 1511?

These mean two functions were configured with the same M code, which is a parameter or PMC configuration conflict rather than a program error. The four codes distinguish the affected function: 1508 for index table indexing (B axis index rotation direction reverse), 1509 for spindle positioning direction, 1510 for spindle positioning, and 1511 for spindle positioning mode release. Find which function shares the code and reassign one of them.

4. What is the protected program number range referenced by alarm 1581?

The protected range runs from the program number set in parameter 3222 to the program number set in parameter 3223. If both parameters are 0, the protected range defaults to 09000 to 09999. Alarm 1581 is triggered when, with the program locked, you try to edit, delete, or output a program in that range, or when, with the program unlocked, you specify a program outside the range for range-specified output. It also occurs when the output code for an encrypted program is specified as EIA — set parameter ISO (No. 0000 #1) to 1.
